ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry at Bridgewater College invites applications from outstanding teacher-scholars with expertise in biochemistry for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry position starting August 2023. 

The successful candidate will join a growing and dynamic chemistry program at a liberal arts college that values quality teaching, advising and mentoring students, and an active research agenda. He or she will be expected to teach courses at all levels of an undergraduate chemistry curriculum, including courses in biochemistry and organic chemistry. The successful candidate will also develop an accessible research agenda that has potential for student involvement. 

QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in chemistry, with specialization in biochemistry, is required by the start of the position in August 2023. Commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates in a liberal-arts context required. Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience preferred.

MISSION: Bridgewater College is a residential liberal arts college of about 1500 students with a vibrant core curriculum and a growing focus on undergraduate research. GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. An excellent school system, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
