The department of Media Arts at Pacific University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of graphic design, beginning fall 2023. The department is searching for an innovative, energetic, and collaborative colleague to teach all levels of undergraduate graphic design classes. These courses cover the design process, elements and principles of graphic design, color theory, typography and type design; poster design, package design, UX concepts, information design, image creation; and the Adobe CC programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign). We are also looking for an individual who will bring vision and inspiration to the major and who has interest in developing courses in one or more of the following areas: interactive design, web design, motion graphics, and/or game design. A demonstrated interest in the craft of teaching and a dedication to integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion policies and practices in the classroom is a must. Teaching load consists of 20 teaching credits with duty credits for advising students and service to the college. Additional responsibilities include capstone advising, promotion of the major, and annual assessment of the graphic design program. Pacific University is a small residential college and values in-person instruction and relational teaching.
Minimum Requirements:
- MFA or equivalent terminal degree
- At least one year of graphic design teaching experience with diverse undergraduate college students in a university setting (can be TA, Instructor of Record preferred)
- Extensive experience with the Adobe CC design applications
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Demonstrated activity in the field of graphic design
- Familiarity with professional graphic design practices in advertising, branding, publication, and/or web design
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning environment.
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Experience with program development
- A vision for the future of Graphic Design at Pacific University
