West Virginia University Research Corporation Shared Research Facilities is currently accepting applications for a Cleanrooms Manager.

The CRF is constituted of two cleanrooms located on the Evansdale and Downtown campuses. The cleanrooms are equipped for microfabrication using ultraviolet lithography, physical and chemical vapor deposition, wet and dry etching, thermal processes, wafer dicing, wire bonding, packaging, and associated process metrology. 

About the Opportunity
As a Cleanroom Manager, you will expected to take charge of cleanroom operations and have expertise in one or a few of the aforementioned areas. This is a highly skilled position that facilitates research within the ECAS (Eberly College of Arts and Sciences), DCANRD (Davis College for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design), HSC (Health Sciences Campus), the Statler CEMR (College of Engineering and Mineral Resources) and with external clients. This position serves as a resource contact and independently uses professional concepts to solve a wide range of moderate to complex problems in imaginative and practical ways. It is expected that the incumbent will stay abreast of new developments in the field and stay up to date on new techniques and make recommendations for new equipment purchases. The manager will work with relevant faculty to develop a strategic plan for the CRF to provide optimal and contemporary services to the WVU community.

What you'll do:

• Cleanroom Facilities Management
• Laboratory Supervision and Management
• Lead operation of the cleanroom facilities, monitor various operational and performance parameters and carry out routine housekeeping.
• Supervise day-to-day activities of researchers and students assigned as staff for shared facilities.
• Develop and implement lab safety protocols and, procedures and operating procedures for various laboratory equipment and processes.
• Develop and document microfabrication process flows.
• Operate facility instrumentation and evaluate performance for baseline processes.
• Organize scheduling use of lab equipment. This includes maintaining and operating iLab^TM hardware and software.
• Set up user accounts for new cleanroom users.
• Generate periodic lab reports on but not limited to usage, recharge, laboratory spending and budget documents.
• Assess state of the art technical developments and make recommendations about new equipment purchases and new technique development 
• Maintenance/Repair/Operation Duties
• Develop new experimental configurations, provide assistance to faculty, students and external clients as appropriate.
• Assist as needed in operation of laboratory equipment. 
• Execute or arrange for the repair of all related equipment.
• Establish and oversee laboratory maintenance schedule, including assigning maintenance tasks.
• Maintain and operate all laboratory vacuum systems and associated equipment, microscopy systems, spectroscopy systems, and material deposition systems.
• Maintain laboratory-specific water systems - cooling and DI water.
• Troubleshoot and work with building supervisors and WVU Facilities to address laboratory issues HVAC, domestic water etc.
• Training, Services, Safety and Business operations 
• Provide training related to chemical and lab safety in the cleanrooms.
• Provide training and instruction to all researchers in the proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Provide instruction to lab users in general lab knowledge and skills.
• Consult with prospective external clients about their technical needs, recommend appropriate instrumentation and develop process flows and quotes, then conduct pay-per-service experiments upon clients' acceptance of quotes.
• Work with SRF Chemical Hygiene Officer to implement laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan procedures and training.
• Maintain inventory of chemical supplies appropriate for the laboratory.
• Purchase chemicals, laboratory equipment and other consumables in coordination with the SRF Director and Faculty as appropriate.
• Review and confirm purchases each month in online management system.
• Liaise with suppliers/vendors to prepare and execute service agreements.
   

• Bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or related field. 
• A minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
• Requires knowledge of ultra-high vacuum practices.
• Requires knowledge of microfabrication practices and cleanroom operations.
• Requires knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and application skills
• Requires basic knowledge of the physical principles underlying scientific instruments and instrument programming techniques
• Requires a background in general physical science
• Requires knowledge of laboratory safety and chemical hygiene practices
• Requires knowledge of business management software and ability to operate it to track revenue and usage.
• Skills in supervising including delegating responsibility, training, and organizing objectives.
• Skills in program, project, and activity lead assignment(s).
• Skills in fostering a stimulating, accepting learning environment.
• Skills in working with a PC and various applications for instrumentation and business operations.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle for travel to different campus locations.
• Ability to read, interpret and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively with vendors, and before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Skill in negotiating compromises and workable solutions concerning laboratory and equipment use issues with faculty and students.
• Ability to gather data, compile product or equipment specifications and make recommendations.
