About the Opportunity
The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a neuroscientist with specialty expertise in focused ultrasound techniques related to preclinical and human clinical research. The Institute has numerous unique imaging and ultrasound capabilities involving several first in human studies. Current research includes the role of MR guided focused ultrasound for blood-brain-barrier disruption as well as neuromodulation in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, tumors, substance use disorder, dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders. The Institute has invested significantly in the integration and advancement of use of MR guided Focused Ultrasound to provide a unique resource to answer broad scale questions in key preclinical and clinical areas. The Institute is also poised with numerous global collaborators to share and exchange data and to address larger populations of clinical trials.
As a research scientist, you will drive progress with the multidisciplinary WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute's Innovation Center team. You will be part of an exciting collaborative effort at an R1 institution working towards innovative solutions to advance the science around optimizing brain health. In this role, your efforts will provide research support related to neuroscience to the multidisciplinary scientific team in order to advance rapidly evolving work of four year old Institute which has seen exponential growth in publications, grants, and IP for work that provide a foundation to improve lives of people in West Virginia and around the globe.
This position will advance the research and development missions of West Virginia University by providing the necessary scientific and technical skills related to several research projects that are essential to the research activities of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

What you'll do:
- Participate in preclinical and clinical studies - on going as well as the develop new protocols
- Use of state-of-art imaging technology to study the neuroscience of human brain connectivity in conjunction of MRFUS treatments
- Work independently and/or with a research team to carry out MRFUS-based studies
- Duties include the design and implementation of research projects
- Data analysis and reporting/publishing of the projects
- Familiarity with image analytics and working knowledge with technical support teams
Qualifications
- Minimum requirements Master degree in Neuroscience, Radiology, Neurobiology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or similar science/engineering-related field;
- Ideal requirement: PhD or MD (expected) in Neuroscience or similar science/engineering-related field.
- Two (2) years experience:
- Neuroscientist with expertise in understanding structural and functional connectivity in the brain
- Understanding of focused ultrasound technology for brain treatments
- Conduct applied human research studies with MRFUS
- Conduct preclinical research studies with MRFUS
- Publishing and presenting scientific reports
- Experience working on and submitting federal awards (NIH, NSF, DOD)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to create, annotate and maintain detailed research records
- Working knowledge of scientific research methods and Institutional Review Board policies and procedures
- Ability to effectively prepare and present information in one-on-one settings in addition to general scientific audiences, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

- Ability to conduct data analytics and preparation of reports and/or publications

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.
The WVURC receives and administers funds awarded by external agencies for research and other activities and is responsible for helping protect intellectual property through patents, copyrights and licensing agreements for start-up companies based on University research.
