Job Description

The Department of Population Health Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech is seeking a Market Assistant for the Empowering Healthy Lifestyles to Reduce Obesity in Petersburg, Virginia, to support the PHOP (Petersburg Healthy Options Partnerships).

Collaborate with Petersburg Public School Division and individual schools to develop and implement farm to school policies, protocols and family-based activities that align with STEM curriculum. Organize and implement virtual and in-person Farm to School activities including Farmer's Market Story Time, Garden to Go kits, POP Club activities and cooking experiences.
Orchestrate and support special events to promote the program (both during and after school, as well as occasional nights and weekends) - to include supervision of community and parent volunteers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with Petersburg City Schools on Farm to School initiatives
  • Familiarity with the Petersburg healthcare system
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated passion for promoting health equity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in collecting data for program monitoring and evaluation, including process data
  • Experience in implementing policy, systems and environment initiatives
