Job Description

Job Summary

The Library Information Specialist, under general supervision, gathers information, assists with server maintenance, and processes order requests for the library.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedules, trains, and processes time sheets for student workers.
  • Assists with statistical gathering and processing of monthly reports for various departments within the library.
  • Assists department supervisor with server maintenance.
  • Processes order requests.
  • Creates, deletes, and maintains login credentials and permissions settings for Library staff on the server.
  • Downloads and processes patron load file into server at the start of every semester.
  • Assists with the maintenance of non-print inventory items.
  • Participates and assists in program reviews by generating specialty reports on the server.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Respond to and fulfill interlibrary loan requests by locating requested materials. Use the library's discovery tool (catalog) to search for requests. Use the interlibrary loan platform to process all requests.
  • Process and package physical materials for mailing.
  • Communicate with other libraries regarding interlibrary loans. Communicate with library users regarding their requests.
  • Maintain all files and records necessary to support interlibrary loan services.
  • Reconcile records with lender invoices, request copyright clearance as needed, and request payment of interlibrary loan charges.
  • Assist in instructing and assigning tasks to the interlibrary loan support staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • Experience - One year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • One or more years of experience in library work, office work, or customer service.
  • A minimum of one year of working with databases (data entry, data validation, data correction, information retrieval).
Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated computer competency including Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and Internet services or applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the general public and work well as a team member.
  • Must possess problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Must possess flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and projects and learn new skills and applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to plan and organize work. Ability to work with details.
Licensing / Professional Certification - None.

  • Move medium weight boxes, books, or similar items.

  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $13.01/hourly
