Agricultural Specialist II
Job Description
The position provides support to the field crop entomology research program at the Virginia Tech Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Duties will include, but are not limited to: assisting research technicians in planting, maintaining, spraying, and harvesting research plots; assisting with data collection for laboratory and field research trials. This is an offcampus position located at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Suffolk, VA.
Required Qualifications
Ability to work in agricultural settings during all growing season months and do moderately strenuous labor associated with establishing, maintaining, sampling, and harvesting field research experiments; Experience in wheat, corn, peanut, cotton, and soybean production systems; Experience working independently as well as in a team environment; Licensed to operate a motor vehicle; Must adhere to strong safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or the equivalent. Experience in small plot agricultural research; Private pesticide applicators license or exhibit the ability to obtain a private pesticide license in Virginia; Experience with field crop insects and an understanding of basic principles of insecticides, pest management, experimental design, and data recording.
