Department Overview:

The College of Education consists of five academic departments and three centers. Its exceptional faculty specialize in research across the field of education, and offers a variety of academic programs from undergraduate to doctoral. Boise State College of Education is committed to excellence in teacher education, graduate programs, doctoral study, research and external funding, and community and partnership relationships. Position Overview:

The College of Education at Boise State University seeks an engaging leader who will partner with our outstanding leadership team and faculty to build a culture of success and innovation in education.  The Associate Dean will work to support and implement the college’s strategic initiatives in teaching, service, and research that are all part of Boise State University’s “Blueprint for Success” strategic planning initiative.  The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for education at all levels, and be committed to the growth of our students and faculty.  We are looking for someone to help us build a strong foundation, as well as to help us envision our new future in the College of Education. 

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Foster a sense of community and identity, particularly around scholarship, for those affiliated with the College;

  • Develop opportunities for faculty development (especially junior faculty) related to research; 

  • Oversee Dean’s office processes for faculty, including P&T, annual evaluations, Emeritus status, and sabbaticals; 

  • Implement the research aspects of the College and University’s new strategic plan; 

  • Provide leadership and oversight for research activity and extramural funding in the College, particularly around transparency and post-award support; 

  • Foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research between departments and between the College and other Colleges/Schools at BSU; 

  • Coordinate the Ed.D. program and providing guidance to graduate programs, with an emphasis on recruitment and support for graduate students; assignment of graduate assistantships;

  • Chair the COED curriculum committee; 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong team leadership and communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities;  

  • Innovative and creative ideas assisting faculty in successfully obtaining research funding;  

  • Interest in mentoring faculty and creating new research opportunities through networking;  

  • Experience in a leadership role on externally-funded research awards, including administrative and financial responsibility;

  • Evidence of success in advising and supporting graduate students;

  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community at Boise State.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Education or closely related field.

  • Current status of Associate Professor or higher with Tenure at current institution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating or supporting faculty or student activities and/or graduate and/or undergraduate programming

  • Experience managing large research programs such as centers, departments, and/or large and complex research grants; 

  • Experience supporting research and creative activity of all students and faculty colleagues;

  • Experience representing the needs and interests of a broad constituency.
