Job Description

A standardized patient (SP) is an individual who is trained to act as a patient in medical scenario for learners in medical/nursing training. The SP will accurately portray victims of sexual and/or physical abuse while interacting with trainees. All simulated scenarios will be performed at the TAMIU Simulation Lab.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work in a professional manner with effective communication skills.
  • Simulate a realistic portrayal of a victim of sexual assault or physical abuse with appropriate affect/behavior and physical findings using moulage makeup.
  • Demonstrate improvisational skills when appropriate to the case scenario.
  • Allow trainees to conduct general physical examination and evidence collection on them for learning purposes.
  • Accommodate guided genital/pelvic internal examinations for trainees under private and modest conditions.
  • Provide constructive feedback to trainees using standardized tools to enhance student learning (direct, written, computer).
  • Receptive to ongoing feedback and modify performance as needed.
  • Perform other duties specific to the job description as need arises.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience - No previous experience required.
  • May not be a currently enrolled student at Texas A&M International University.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Acting experience
  • Experience in health care setting
Other Requirements:
  • Comfort level with intimate topics provided in scenarios.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility and reliability with assignments.
  • Position is Temporary, subject to funding and/or need.
  • Position requires a flexible schedule to work evening and/or weekend hours, as necessary.
