Job Description

Applies a cross-functional skillset to write software and develop and maintain the platforms, frameworks, and systems that allows VTTI to deploy software more efficiently and securely. Applies DevOps best practices to project development and operations to ensure that our systems are being continuously improved, can be maintained efficiently, and can incorporate changes quickly. Participates in cross-training of systems at VTTI to ensure that information is effectively shared. Develop and maintain web applications (full stack) for a diverse userbase ranging from internal VTTI technicians and researchers to external stakeholders. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies software design principles, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Provides maintenance and long-term assistance to ensure applications, subsystems, and infrastructure function together to ensure business needs are met. Leverage infrastructure as code for development projects and CI/CD automation. Develop instrumentation of applications to measure performance as it relates to project requirements and create presentations of those data for stakeholders. Cross-train operations and developers to utilize the platform. Directions given and received: Independently performs most assignments with instructions on global objectives and general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. May supervise/mentor/provide training and coordinate the work of graduate research assistants, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or engineering or a lesser degree with related experience | Proficient in backend development using languages such as Python, Java, Nodejs, PHP, Go, or Rust | Proficient in client-side development with HTML5, CSS, Javascript/Typescript | Experience interfacing disparate software components via APIs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Git, GitLab and CI/CD pipelines | Experience with React, Vue, or Angular | Experience with metrics and monitoring tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana | Experience with Kubernetes and containerization technologies (Docker/containerd)
