The athletic program at Appalachian State University operates on the premise that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the institution's overall program of education. Priority is given to high standards of both academic and athletic quality - the goal being the complete and comprehensive development of the student-athlete. The Senior Associate Athletics Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Performance is an integral part of that mission.

The Senior Associate Athletics Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Performance is an integral part of that mission.
Details of the position include:
- Works under supervision of the Director of Athletics or designee and serves on the department executive team.
- Assumes responsibility for administration and oversight of the Athletic Training Staff, Sports Medicine Staff, Nutrition Staff, Counseling Staff, and Strength and Conditioning Staff.
- Responsible for advertising positions (full-time) when open, and for collecting resumes and interviewing potential candidates.
- Oversees purchasing and budgeting of supplies and equipment for the Athletic Training staff and sports medicine department.
- Oversees inventory of supplies and equipment for the Athletic Training Staff and Sports Medicine Department.
- Oversees and administers the institutional drug screening program.
- Responsible for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the direction of the Appalachian State University Team Physicians.
- Supervises and evaluates athletic training staff and students, as well as Unit Director of other assigned areas.
- Serve as a liaison between coaches, student-athletes, physicians, and parents.
- Oversees the development and implementation of departmental alcohol and drug education program.
- Oversees the operation of the athletic training facilities.
- Organizes and administers support areas meetings.
- Attends weekly athletic administrative staff meetings.
- Facilitates work/sport assignments for athletic training staff.
- Coordinates Sports Performance team which includes Counseling, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and Athletic Training.
- Facilitate student-athlete health and well-being initiatives.
- Oversee the department relationship & partnership with Breakthrough Physical Therapy.
- Supervise all FTEs in Sports Medicine, Performance Nutrition, and Directors in Strength & Conditioning areas.
