Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education
The Boise State University Department of Music invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education/Assistant Director of Choral Activities. Boise State University is the largest university in Idaho located in a thriving metropolitan area. In addition to serving as a cultural hub for the arts, Boise offers a vibrant downtown, picturesque vistas, and great outdoor recreation. The Department of Music has about 170 undergraduate and graduate students, 21 full-time faculty and 17 adjunct faculty. We offer BM degrees in Composition, Music Education, Performance; BA degree in Music; and MM degrees in Choral Conducting, Music Education, and Performance. Workload is 60% teaching; 20% creative activity and 20% service.
Job responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Choral Music Education and Music Education

Conduct the University Singers (all-campus, non-auditioned mixed choral ensemble)

Teach additional course(s) based upon candidate’s expertise, such as Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Ear Training, or Introduction to Music Research (graduate course)

Work with Director of Music Education and Music Education Committee to sustain and support the BM and MM Music Education degrees

Work with the Director of Choral Activities and voice professors to sustain and support the choral/vocal area

Actively recruit for the Department of Music

Cultivate working relationships with area and regional educators to promote music education, and choral activities in general

Maintain a synergistic relationship with all areas in the Department of Music

Participate in Department of Music activities and committee work, as load permits
At a minimum, candidate will have:

Doctorate in Music; ABD will be considered
-
3 years of K-12 teaching experience
-
Expertise to teach and develop courses in Choral Music Education

Evidence of scholarship and achievement in the area of Choral Music Education
Preferentially, candidate will have:

Doctorate in Music Education
-
Successful experience teaching Vocal Jazz Ensemble/Vocal Jazz style

Successful experience teaching at the college level
-
5 or more years of K-12 teaching or evidence of equivalent experience
