Job Description

Provides technical support to clinical faculty and senior veterinary students in the medical and surgical sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including ward and treatment room management, administering treatments and medications ordered by clinical faculty, and animal care administration/management. Special nursing care procedures may include special diagnostic procedures, infection control/isolation management, OR support procedures, and central sterile support. Assist in other areas as directed by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of basic companion and large animal anatomy and physiology; previous experience in a veterinary clinical setting; working knowledge of surgical suite and central sterile supply instrumentation and sterile techniques; ability to understand instructions; ability to handle and restrain all species of animals; great communications skills; ability to stand for long periods and to lift up to 50 pounds; must be able to tolerate rabies prophylaxis(provided by employer).

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed or Licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician(LVT).
