Job Description

The Phoenix Festival Theater (PFT) Company Manager is responsible for producing 3 - 4 (most often 3) annual productions for Harford Community College's community theater company.

Duties include but are not limited to: assisting the Director for Events in choosing productions; recruiting, contracting, and managing artistic and production staff; assisting in developing production budgets; monitoring production budgets and controlling production costs; assisting in seeking sponsorship/underwriting support for PFT; assisting in developing HCC's theater audience and supporters; gathering and assessing cast, crew, and audience feedback; coordinating, facilitating, and overseeing open auditions for each production; scheduling and coordinating rehearsal spaces; scheduling, coordinating, and conducting production meetings; overseeing the progression and preparedness of each production; attending department meetings; providing front-of-house support for productions; preparing and maintaining accurate records for grant applications and reports; coordinating costume and props inventory; demonstrating a continuous effort to improve PFT operations and provide quality productions; and performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The PFT Company Manager, on occasion, may also assist with house manager support for other presented shows offered by the department.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.


Required Education

Associate degree or certificate required.

Required Experience

One to three years of theater administration and/or events management preferred. Equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of methods, techniques, contracting and processes associated with musical theatrical productions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work, cooperate, and communicate with colleagues, supervisor, and artistic and production staff.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of simultaneous, ongoing projects.
  • Ability to work with, within, and promote a diverse workforce & environment. Ability to provide excellent customer service as it relates to assigned area of expertise.
General Weekly Work Schedule

Based on production and event schedule; schedule requires evening and weekends related to production schedules; office hours are flexible. Final work schedule to be determined by the supervisor.
