Position Highlights
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Arizona seeks two (2) well-trained candidates to work on an exciting NSF-funded project at the intersection of deep learning and computer security/privacy, under the direction of Dr. Michael Wu.
The project seeks to investigate security and privacy problems in deep learning models and explore deep learning-empower solutions to securing next-generation cyber systems.
The candidates will be part of an NSF-funded project, entitled A Development and Experimental Environment for Privacy-preserving and Secure (DEEPSECURE) Machine Learning Research. The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers from the University of Arizona and the University at Buffalo to develop a new software platform to support DEEPSECURE SDE (Software Development Environment) and MEC (Multi-user Experimental Chamber). The platform will be integrated with PyTorch to enable great usability for both beginners and advanced researchers and feature a scalable and customizable modular framework with seamlessly integrated libraries, function blocks, and sample modules.
The duration of the initial appointment will be for one year and the position can be renewed based on performance and research productivity for a second year.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform research related to deep learning and
security/privacy developing software platform. - Mentor and collaborate with undergraduate/MS students and
Ph.D. candidates on research. - Participates fully as a lab team member to collaborate
research, collect data and attend meetings. - Innovative research and participation in proposal writing.
- Prepare, edit and revise research papers to be published in
peer-reviewed conference proceedings and journals. - Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Deep knowledge in applied machine learning and/or security and privacy.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
- Strong communication skills (writing and oral expression).
Minimum Qualifications
- Conferred Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Engineering,
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) is required upon offer of employment. - At
least three years' experience in machine learning or cybersecurity-related
research and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Effective writing experience for publication of articles in scientific research journals.
- Experience with PyTorch.
