Position Announcement

Provides administrative support services to the English Department Chair, the Composition Coordinator, and English Department faculty. This position also supervises part-time clerical staff within the department. The English Department is one of the University's largest departments, offering general education course requirements as well as an English major with four emphases, as well as four minors, and is home to the Master's degree in Technical Writing & Digital Rhetoric (TW&DR). Responsibilities
  • Support English Department Chair, Composition Coordinator, faculty, advisors, and students. This includes record management, budget and scheduling requests, IT and facility management work orders, book and office supply orders, office equipment management and maintenance, copy and print requests, website content editor, semester syllabi and grade book management, and use of school database systems, including Banner and Argos, for various administrative and reporting purposes.
  • Greet general public, answer phones, receive messages, distribute mail, and direct students/visitors to proper areas/offices on campus.
  • Prepare and track purchase requisitions, travel authorizations, part-time instructor teaching agreements, equipment inventory, meeting minutes, and other university forms and processes as needed.
  • Supervise/manage the English work-study and student employees. This includes assigning and supervising various administrative duties/special projects and the timely approval/submission of the work-study timecards.
  • Support the program coordinator, graduate faculty, and graduate students of the English master's program. Take minutes at TW&DR committee meetings, maintain website, answer email inquiring from current and prospective grad students, help with program messaging and communication flow, help with purchasing and scheduling needs, and assist the program coordinator with ongoing needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED, with some college coursework or vocational/technical training, required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years' full-time office experience required; experience working in higher education preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, faculty, students, and community members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Knowledge of professional office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook); knowledge of computer systems unique to higher education (Banner, Canvas, Argos, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good working knowledge of financial recordkeeping procedures.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time classified staff (overtime-eligible) position. Annual salary of $33,000, with a desired start date of November 2022.
