Job Description
The UAB J. Frank Barefield, Jr. Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for one full-time tenure track, 9-month Assistant Professor with a start date of August 2023. We are recruiting applications from scholars focused on Race and Crime. Areas of specialization could include (but are not limited to) racial disparities in criminal justice processing and decision-making, the role of race/ethnicity in crime and victimization, and policy issues related to race and ethnicity.
The successful candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field. ABDs with a Ph.D. by the employment start date of August 15, 2023, will be strongly considered. The successful candidate is expected to have an active research agenda and the potential to become an independent researcher in the area of race and crime. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and evidence of effective classroom instruction.
The College of Arts and Sciences includes more than 6,800 students with more than 40 baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees and 300 faculty, many of whom have been recognized for their outstanding research, teaching, and service. The College of Arts and Sciences is home to 19 academic departments and six Centers and Institutes. Frank Barefield, Jr. Department of Criminal Justice. This generous gift to the Department will create opportunities for faculty recruitment and research into criminal behavior and factors affecting community crime and violence, student scholarships, and preparation of students for careers in criminal justice. The Department has multiple degree programs, including a B.S. in Criminal Justice, B.S. in Digital Forensics, M.S. in Criminal Justice, and M.S. in Forensic Sciences. The Department has a thriving student population with about 350 undergraduate majors, 25 graduate students, and 15 full-time faculty members.
