Job Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking applications for two (2) full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor, tenure track positions in the Department of Social Work to begin August 15, 2023. The Department is interested in applicants with a focus on minority health (broadly defined) and/or mental health research. Successful candidates should be able to contribute to the diversity and excellence within the department through their research, teaching, and service. Candidates for this position must possess a MSW and PhD in Social Work or an allied profession at the time of the appointment.

The UAB Department of Social Work has a diverse and nationally recognized faculty with expertise in the areas of health, behavioral health, child welfare, program evaluation, and educational innovation. The faculty engage in collaborative research with colleagues across the UAB Campus, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. The Department also has strong connections to community-based agencies throughout Alabama, which provide exceptional field placements for students and collaborative research opportunities. All faculty and staff in the Department are strongly committed to a research and teaching mission focused on promoting social and economic justice, as well as improving the health and well-being of underserved individuals and communities. The Department's BSW Program has been accredited for over 40 years, serving approximately 200 majors a year. The MSW Program provides a specialized curriculum in clinical health and behavioral health, with a current enrollment of approximately 80 students. Both programs collaborate with other health science programs across the campus through research and robust simulation and interprofessional learning activities. The Department of Social Work is situated in the UAB College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) which includes 19 academic departments representing arts and humanities as well as social and physical sciences. CAS is home to over 300 full-time faculty and more than 40 baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees, making it the largest academic entity in the UAB academic enterprise. Required Qualifications

PhD in Social Work or allied field, including but not limited to public health, sociology, psychology, and criminal justice

MSW from an accredited social work program

Demonstrated evidence or potential for research productivity in minority health (broadly defined) and/or mental health research relative to career stage

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with College or University teaching

Experience with multiple teaching modalities at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

Two years practice experience and license eligible
