Job Description
The Special Program Aide (Program Specialist) will coordinate program operations with STEM students, coordinate student research conference participation, manage data related to student progress in grant-related mini-studies, provide guidance on research compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary resource for TAMIU LSAMP students' compliance with responsible conduct of research practices.
- Maintain records on all students involved in mini-studies and monitor progress and compliance of all students.
- Assist in recruitment of students to research conferences and assist in the development and operations of the local conferences at TAMIU.
- Coordinate TAMIU LSAMP student participation in external research conferences by facilitating research assistance (i.e. printing professional posters, travel logistics, preparation of students) .
- Create monthly progress reports on TAMIU LSAMP's progress on each initiative, with special attention on assessing program goals such as student retention, student research development, and long-term evaluation of the program.
- Work with external evaluators from the TAMU System LSAMP team to provide quality data as needed.
- Meet regularly with Pl and Co-PI for staff meetings, training, and workshops.
- Serve as primary liaison and coordinate matters related to student research compliance with TAMIU Research Compliance Staff.
- Complete assigned on-line trainings within specified time frame.
- Develop, organize and present training modules for student research compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field
- Some experience in Research/Creative Activity
- Computer literate and skills with basic data management.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to assess program operations and advise PI and Co-PI on appropriate strategies for accomplishing program goals.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with University students and staff.
- Ability to organize events and coordinate student participation.
- Ability to work effectively in developing research/creative projects.
- Ability to speak in front of large groups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience presenting at Research Conferences.
- Some formal training (such as CITI Certification) in Research Compliance/Responsible Conduct of Research.

Other Information:
- Must be available to work on a flexible schedule. Some events are nights/weekends.
- May be required to travel with students to conferences such as Pathways for up to 3 days, once or twice per year.
- Must have excellent references from academic or professional members of a university or other agency.
