Job Description

The Virginia Tech National Security Institute is seeking applicants for a Computer Support Coordinator to provide operations support to the quickly growing institute. The successful candidate will be a detail oriented individual, have strong problem-solving skills, and be able to execute a diverse set of tasks with limited direction. This position reports to the IT Manager. The institute conducts research that primarily focuses on supporting the national security community, and therefore US citizenship is required for this position.

Responsibilities include monitoring the ticket tracking system for incoming IT related issues and
Troubleshooting/resolving IT related issues reported to the helpdesk. These issues may relate to software installation, hardware failures, operating system problems, printer installation, etc. Install and deploy new machines for incoming new hires and/or computer reassignment.

In addition, this position will manage Hume Center fixed assets inventory; prepare detailed Banner reports for inventory and internal audit requirements; coordinate with NSI personnel to locate, tag, and track all assets. This position will also work on the development and maintenance of floor plan schematic linking office and workspaces to port and key numbers.

Required Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic team environment;
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows and applications such as Microsoft Office, Matlab, adobe acrobat, Office 365, MacOS, basic Linux commands, etc.;
  • Fluency with digital collaboration tools, including email and electronic calendars;
  • Demonstrated potential in providing Operations support services to a diverse organization;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to execute tasks with limited direction.
  • Experience with formal IT Service Management frameworks and strong understanding of ITSM concepts and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned B.S. or B.A. degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with technical writing, particularly in engineering or the sciences
  • Previous IT project management experience providing administrative support in an academic environment
  • Experience developing and delivering training material to support staff and end users

Additional Information

Due to the nature of the Institute's work, all candidates must be US citizens. This is an on-site position and not eligible for telework.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
