Position Highlights

The Tfaily lab at the Department of Environment Science at the University of Arizona seeks a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research that aims to further our understanding of microbial metabolism in diverse environments through the lens of metabolomics and multi-omics integration. This includes but not limited to (i) using systems-based approaches to unravel multi-species microbial community functioning; (ii) understanding how virus therapy influence ecosystem processes through metabolic reprograming of microbial communities, and (iii) application of Phagotherapy in the Treatment of burn Patients. The successful candidate will carry out metabolite extraction, data analysis and interpretation followed by integration with other omics data such as metagenomics and metatranscriptomics . The selected candidate will work within a collaborative group of chemists, microbiologists, microbial ecologists and molecular biologists and will lead and participate in lab-based experiments as well as field work. They will collaborate with and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Reviews will begin in early November 2022.

Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct independent research and work on team assignments focusing on microbial metabolism and multi-omics integration; lead manuscript development and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature,

Present research work in multiple settings,

Participate in the development of research proposals.

Position requires collecting and processing fecal samples/soil samples/blood and plasma.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and an ability to collaborate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or upon hire from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or a related field is required as well as a strong background in one or more of the following areas: microbial metabolism and interactions, biochemistry, LC-MS based metabolomics, multi-omics integration, coding in R, statistical methods, and computation biology approaches. The ideal candidate has a track record of demonstrating initiative, problem-solving, independent execution of routine research tasks, demonstrated experience to publish high impact research, and demonstrated experience that shows learning and successfully using new concepts and research techniques.

This position is full-time (100% FTE), 12-month, year-to-year appointment with an initial term appointment of one year (12 months), with the possibility of renewal up to a total of three years subject to funding and satisfactory performance. Salary will be commensurate with experience and employee benefits will be provided.
