Job Description

Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist II, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental safety program. Prepares reports for distribution outside of department, to include those to the State. Acts independently ensuring work complies with program procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs inspections and investigations of environmental health and safety-related matters; may require operating a University vehicle to complete duties.
  • Develops and implements safety education and awareness programs.
  • Provides advice and technical guidance, including corrective action.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to assigned duties.
  • Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage the University's fire and life safety programs and equipment including (AEDs, Fire extinguishers, fire alarm and suppression equipment, etc.).
  • Conduct periodic audits of campus facilities to ensure compliance with Life Safety Code, and other regulatory standards.
  • Ensure safety equipment is deployed, operable, and requisite inspections are performed.
  • Maintain compliance with fire and life safety standards and regulations
  • Support University Fleet Program.
  • Conduct departmental safety training as needed.
  • Generate reports, correspondence, and other documents as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Associate degree in (Occupational Health & Safety or related profession) applicable field.
  • Experience - Four years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • NIMS/ICS (e.g., 100, 200, 300, etc.)
  • OSHA 10/30-hour General Industry/Construction
  • NFPA (e.g., 1, 101, etc.)
Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
  • Familiarization with Occupational Health and Safety, Fire and Life, and other safety standards or code(s).
  • Familiarization with Emergency Management, National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Familiarization with building automation system (BAS).Awareness of higher education institutional culture and its general functions.
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with third-party contractors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Able to function independently and as a team.
  • Familiarity with reading building floor plans.

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $17.55/hourly
