About the Position
Job Summary:

The individual is required to follow recognized procedures and techniques to safely perform duties repairing, replacing and/or installing components in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC and electrical trades.

Essential job responsibilities include:

  • Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturers' specifications or supervisor's instructions
  • Observes, adjusts and lubricates a wide variety of machines and devices to insure proper operation, including pumps, engines, motors, compressors and laboratory equipment
  • Dismantles machines and devices for servicing, repair, or replacement of parts
  • Makes minor repairs to faucets, flush meters, valves, traps, water coolers, etc.
  • Replaces bulbs, defective, sockets, switches, fuses, and receptacles
  • Regulates HVAC systems, steam or hot water equipment in mechanical rooms, offices, laboratories, residence areas, etc. Adjusts valves, thermostats and dampers
  • Performs labor or other semi-skilled duties including drilling, digging, minor roof repair, cleaning gutters, cement mixing, replacement of missing or damaged floor or ceiling tile, etc.
  • Maintains plant or work areas in safe, clean operating condition reports unsafe conditions of buildings or equipment to supervisor
  • Performs on-call duties as per the Facilities Management On-Call Policy
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Trade or vocational school preferred
  • 2 - 4 years of general maintenance experience

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend written and oral instruction in order to perform maintenance and repairs as required by work order
  • Working knowledge of repair, replacement and installation in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades
  • Working knowledge of basic shop power tools
  • Working knowledge of powered plumbing tools
  • Working knowledge of a voltmeter
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures

Physical demands and working conditions for this position include:

  • Occasionally lifting 50 lbs or less
  • Frequently lifting 25 lbs or more

  • Typically running, climbing
  • Using tools requiring high dexterity
  • Outdoor exposure to weather

  • High noise environment
  • High dust, dirt, grease environment
  • Must hold valid driver's license
  • May have an alternative work schedule
  • May be required to be on-call
