Assistant Professor of Biology (Botany)

The Department of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the University of Montevallo is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Botany, Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field. Duties and responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester (three 4 credit hour laboratory science courses), maintaining an active research program, and service to the department, college, and university.

Teaching responsibilities include teaching non-majors Principles of Biology, Introductory Biology II (introductory biodiversity for majors), and upper-level, plant-focused organismal elective courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Upper-level courses may include courses already offered at UM, such as Field Botany, or new courses may be developed. Please describe upper-level elective courses that can be taught and/or developed in the application cover letter. Opportunities for teaching and research include UM’s Ebenezer Swamp Ecological Preserve. The Swamp is a 60-acre hardwood wetland located approximately 6 miles from campus and is home to numerous species of plants, animals, and fungi. Service responsibilities will include coordinating assessment of non-majors Principles of Biology.
