Position Highlights

University Information Technology Services (UITS) is accepting applications for the position of Cloud Computing Engineer II within IT Support Services. The Cloud Computing Engineer II will be responsible for managing and maintaining two university SaaS systems. The first system is Apporto Virtual Computer Labs, the university's solution for virtual lab management through the VCAT service. The second system is VMWare Workspace One UEM, the university's solution for desktop and laptop computer management through the TLC service. Management of these systems will include proactively meeting with employees, students, and product vendors to identify service offering improvement opportunities. The Cloud Computing Engineer II will be part of a small technical team, but will be involved in cross training and piloting both service offerings to university employees and students.

UITS is a $70 M organization of approximately 300 employees responsible for providing enterprise network, telecommunications, computing, and data services to the University of Arizona. UITS offers a broad array of services to the university community ranging from deploying and managing the campus' wired and wireless networks to stewardship of the administrative applications that support the HR, payroll, finance, and student lifecycle management activities of the institution. Also, UITS recently unveiled its next-generation high performance computing environment to support the computationally intensive needs of UA research faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management and maintenance of two university systems:
  • Apporto Virtual Computer Labs, the university's solution for virtual lab management through the VCAT service.
  • VMWare Workspace One UEM, the university's solution for desktop and laptop computer management through the TLC service.
  • Collaborate with employees, students, and product vendors to identify service offering improvement opportunities.
  • Manage existing applications and publish new applications within both systems.
  • Monitor system configuration and identify automation opportunities to streamline management.
  • Additional duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service
    skills.
  • Skill in analyzing
    software problems in a virtual environment.
  • Skill in providing information technology
    related customer service and training to users with varying levels of
    technical expertise.
  • Proficiency in scripting on multiple platforms.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac software deployment and installation.
  • Experienced with cloud native methodologies - understanding cloud based solutions and troubleshooting.
  • Skill in working as part of a team.
  • Outgoing and eager to meet new people.
  • Skill in time management and in dealing with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to effectively
    communicate verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in bulk computer management for physical computers.
  • Experience in bulk computer management for virtual computers.
  • Non-Technical customer service experience.
  • Technical customer service experience.
  • Experience in Powershell scripting.
  • Experience in Bash scripting.
  • Experience in Javascript.
