Job Description

The Department of Material Science and Engineering is seeking two tenure track faculty, academic year positions at the possible ranks of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position has responsibilities in teaching, research and service missions of the department. Primary responsibilities of this position include: undergraduate/graduate instruction and mentoring, course development, externally funded research, academic scholarship and service to the MSE Department, University and externally. Successful candidates will contribute to enhancing curricula, promoting teaching excellence as well as secure externally funded research grants. Faculty are expected to mentor graduate students, advise MSE senior capstone teams, and participate in department and professional service. Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of research groups throughout the university.

Required Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field at time of appointment.

Position requires occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to contribute to the department's teaching mission, at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Record of research accomplishments, e.g., publications

Demonstrated ability in higher education instruction with promise for being a leader in the instructional mission.

Ability to teach materials science and engineering courses at the undergraduate / graduate level.

Demonstrated interest in collaborative research with existing departmental research strengths.

Contributions to improving the diversity of the discipline, and experience in working effectively with a diverse student population.
