The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education.

he GI Clinical Research Team (CRT) at the University of Arizona Cancer Center is seeking a Program Manager. This position contributes to the organization, development, and sponsor management activities of clinical and translational research, including investigator-initiated trials in GI cancers. This position collaborates with physicians and research collaborators, cancer center shared resources, and GI CRT leadership. The role will help develop protocol reports and provide sponsor management activities including appropriate communication with all participating sites as well as UA and UACC oversight committees. The position will also provide dedicated strategic support for clinical trials within the GI CRT. The selected candidate/s will work closely with clinical faculty and the GI clinical research team, have regular contact with investigators, regulatory staff, clinical trials sponsors (e.g. private industry and national cooperative groups), and administrative staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with GI Oncology clinical and basic science research physicians in the development of new clinical and translational research IITs and other studies. Job responsibilities include: protocol development; consent forms; IND management; case report forms; and other ancillary material (i.e., research subject telephone scripts, instructional guides, and research manuals) and revise/amend existing documents as necessary.
  • Assist in protocol development, portfolio management and poster/podium presentations.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in the research protocol, interpret protocol language and ensure compliance with financial sponsor, IRB, university, UACC, and third-party regulations and policies.
  • Identify gaps in IIT trial documentation, analyze and propose solutions.
  • Meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Keep current on legislation, rules, regulations, and polices; help educate physicians and staff regarding changes as related to clinical research protocol design, and informed consent form requirements.
  • Provide support for resolving operational, workload, protocol implementation, and data collection issues.
  • Assist and/or lead sponsor, FDA, or other relevant audit preparation.
  • Serve as the primary sponsor contact for affiliate sites participating in IITs assigned. Provide sites all appropriate site trial documentation and ensure the collection of essential information for reporting purposes.
  • Act as the administrative trial support for multi-center IITs in coordination with the IIT unit, ensuring all trial specific meetings are effectively managed and trial related reports are prepared as requested by the trial PI.
  • Provide primary sponsor oversight management activities for non-multi-center IITs assigned.
  • Communicate with potential study participants, schedule appointments, interview and evaluate potential participants to ensure they meet eligibility requirements; instruct participants concerning protocol and obtain consent signature
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinical research team and study sponsor as a representative of the University of Arizona Cancer Center to foster productive relationships.
  • Remain knowledgeable about the patient population being seen within the clinics and actively participate in identifying trials that meet the research needs of the patient population and oversee feasibility review and site selection.
  • Ensure that all trials are proactively moving through the trial activation process and progressing appropriately towards accrual goals when open to accrual. Work collaboratively with PIs and CTO Leadership when challenges are identified to quickly find a solution to implement.
  • Develop and/or coordinate the database specifications, edit check specifications, and the development of a documented trial data management plan, conduct data reviews, query generation/resolution, data reconciliation, and help identify protocol deviations.
  • Provide input into IITs assigned to ensure the data collection requirements are clear and supportive of the study endpoints.
  • Actively organize/coordinate clinical research team meetings and collaborate with Banner clinic staff and clinical trials office staff to assure patient safety and adherence to the protocol requirements.
  • Create and review efficiency and progress metrics regularly with CTO Administrative Management as well as the Clinical Research Team assigned to support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
