Job Summary

The Department of Mass Communication at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for the NBCU Academy Visiting Professor/Lecturer (non-tenure-track) in Mass Communication for the 2022- 2023 academic year beginning August 2022. An advanced degree in Mass Communication/Journalism and/or extensive industry experience, training, recognition is required for the position. The successful applicant will teach courses designed in collaboration with the NBCU Academy and will be able to teach all levels of Mass Communication courses. 

Job Responsibilities:

The NBCU Academy Visiting Professor/Lecturer will have significant experience/training and industry skills in broadcasting, multimedia journalism, digital media, storytelling, and production, and will be able to develop and train students in industry skills needed for today's news media organizations. 

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Advanced degree in Mass Communication/Journalism and/or extensive industry experience, training, recognition is required for the position.
  •  Candidates will be expected to teach courses in broadcasting, multimedia production, storytelling, journalism, digital and social media, video editing, animation, and content creation for journalism and Public Relations. Visiting lecturers will also support and supervise multimedia capstone projects and mentor student in student media organizations.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in classroom instruction and will be expected to maintain strong ties with the industry to incorporate the latest pedagogical trends into the classroom and to prepare students for jobs post-graduation.
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Advanced degree in Mass Communication/Journalism and/or extensive industry experience, training, recognition is required for the position
  • The successful candidate should be proficient in broadcast and multimedia writing, reporting, editing, digital media content creation, and newsgathering techniques. 
  • Ability and willingness to work collegially are essential. 
  • Ideal candidates should also have the ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as hybrid classes and will aid the department in mentoring students for professional media careers and to contribute to the growth of the undergraduate Mass Communication programs.
