Description

The Department of Psychology at West Virginia University invites applications for two Assistant Professor positions in Clinical Psychology starting August 2023. These are 9-month, full-time, tenure-track positions with full benefits. The area of specialization involves research in children, adolescents, and/or pediatric health conditions. The successful candidates will contribute to our APA-accredited PhD program in Clinical Psychology by conducting research supported by external grants, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and mentoring student research and clinical work.

The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes that complement the Psychology Department's current offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Psychology has 25 full-time faculty, 73 graduate students, and 800 undergraduate majors. Doctoral training is offered in Clinical Psychology (APA-accredited), Behavior Analysis (ABAI-accredited), Behavioral Neuroscience, and Life-Span Developmental Psychology. Our doctoral program has been continuously accredited by APA since 1966. In 2020, the program was re-accredited for ten years. Additionally, WVU is opening a new children's hospital at the WVU Health Sciences Center in September 2022, which will provide numerous opportunities for collaboration. The Psychology Department has an award-winning doctoral-student led formal mentorship program for students from underrepresented groups, and the Behavior Analysis program recently has been awarded a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grant from the National Science Foundation to involve undergraduates from underrepresented groups in laboratory-based scientific experiences as a foundation for diversifying the workforce in behavior science.

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located less than 90 minutes from Pittsburgh, 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area, and 3 hours from Columbus or Cleveland. Qualifications

The successful applicants must have 1) a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field, including, but not limited to, Applied Behavior Analysis, Experimental Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or School Psychology by August 2023; 2) licensure (or license eligibility) as a psychologist in the state of West Virginia by August 2023; 3) area of specialization in children, adolescent, and/or pediatrics; 4) an active research program that complements that of the current faculty; 5) research with the strong potential to secure external funding; 6) the ability to provide high quality mentorship to students in research; 7) the ability to provide high quality mentorship of students' clinical work; 8) excellent written and oral communication skills; 9) excellent undergraduate and graduate teaching skills.
