Position Title: Assistant Professor

Position Location: Wingate Main Campus

Wingate University’s Department of Music seeks to hire an Assistant Professor in Choral Music Education/Associate Director of Choral Activities for Fall 2023. The position is full-time and tenure track. The Wingate Music Department is a collaborative and supportive environment that seeks to build community and respect between and among faculty and students, encourage excellence in music making, and honor students of all backgrounds and experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching responsibilities will be determined depending on the candidate's strengths and areas of expertise. Courses could include Music Education Methods and Choral Conducting courses, as well as, directing the advanced treble choir, a tenor-bass choir, and/or a non-auditioned SATB ensemble. Additional responsibilities could include supervising student teachers and advising music education students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Choral Activities with all operations of the Choral Department including, but not limited to, organization of tours, hosting festivals, and planning and executing concerts.
  • Play an active role in recruiting for the Music Department and maintain a high visibility among music programs in the region.

  • Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Terminal degree in choral music education or choral conducting preferred. ABD acceptable, but degree must be completed within the first year.
  • Minimum of 3 years K-12 public school teaching experience or professional equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstration of quality performances by choral ensembles
  • Commitment to actively support and advance DEI initiatives
