Job Summary
The Data Reporting Specialist will serve as part of the IT Partners Data Strategy, Analytics and Reporting (DSAR) group and is responsible for building Gies College of Business' data capacity and generating data reports that serve the College's functional and strategic data needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Capacity-Building and Automations:
  • Manage Gies College of Business fact tables and functional endpoint tables, transforming from raw to usable data
  • Develop automations that apply standardized definitions, filters, and cleaning to create consistent and universally-understood data
  • Research and intake data from current and new data sources to generate additional fact and functional tables
  • Work with IT Partners Application Development group to ensure proper and regular access to appropriate raw data sources
  • Develop comprehensive data documentation on new functionalities, structures, and recommended use of datasets
  • Work internally with DSAR team members to ensure all functional data needs are met
  • Understand the breadth of available administrative and academic data in the context of unit needs
Data Report Generation:
  • Use new and existing data capacities to generate data reports, including data exports and data aggregations, to meet functional and strategic needs
  • Respond to College requests for data, meeting with relevant individuals and generating ad-hoc and standardized reports, following established definitions and ensuring consistency between and within units
  • Work with DSAR team members to identify new areas for reporting and expand the unit's capacity to provide data reports
  • Work with Data Visualization Specialist to ensure alignment between and incorporate data reports into Gies Data Dashboards products
  • Leverage reports into daily emailed data summaries and topline statistics
Project Management and Collaboration:
  • Serve as subject-matter expert in data reports and automations, meeting with college clients to discuss needs and develop strategies
  • Work with IT Partners leadership and project managers to coordinate and prioritize data-related projects generated by IT Partners and other College units, working with other DSAR employees to ensure projects are completed within deadlines
  • Follow-up with College units who regularly use DSAR data reports to ensure needs are being met
  • Manage workflow and project tracking in approved project management applications.
Campus Collaboration:
  • Represent college in campus communities of practice and working groups focused on data capacity and reporting
  • Collaborate with data specialists in other colleges as required through IT Partners agreements
  • Contribute to the development of campus strategy and operational best practices for data reporting
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession.
  • College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years.
  • Demonstrated experience with data management, data queries, and data reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technology or data-science related degrees
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SQL programming
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with campus administrative and academic datasets
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 10/10/2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.The salary range starts at $60,000. Professional development and other advancement opportunities are also available. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
