Position Summary
The Head of Technology Services & Collections is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and assessment of the technical but not limited to; technology, acquisitions, and collection services and initiatives of the library. Common areas of oversight include, cataloging, serials, collection management, and licensing. With the Director of Libraries develops and implements a strategic plan to identify and align institutional priorities with goals for library technology and collection services. Oversees the work and performance of all personnel in the Technology & Collections department. Develops university wide partnerships with departments that intersect and integrate library technology and collection services. Supports T&C staff in collaborative projects with library and university departments that intersect and integrate library technology and collection services. Evaluates and implements emergent technologies into the technical services and collection services of the library.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Minimum 3 +years' experience in library technology and collection services with demonstrated increase of responsibilities and supervisory experience. 
  • Understanding of current issues and trends facing libraries and the changing nature of the academic library environment supporting technology and the management of collections. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to facilitate communication among a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, analytic, and problem solving skills with the ability to work collegially with internal and external campus constituents. 
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage multiple projects and bring them to completion. 
  • Appreciation for the importance of diversity in the workplace and the ability to flourish in a culture that values diversity of thought and backgrounds. 
  • Strong commitment to attention to detail, collaboration, a respectful work environment, teamwork, and customer relations.

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program.

Working Conditions
  • Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). 
  • Regular use of desktop and laptop computer or tablet is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. 
  • Moderate level of stress. 
  • Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
Duty and Responsibility
  • Responsible for Technology & Collection Services and Collections operations. Plans, directs, and manages acquisition, cataloging, classification, selection, and processing of library materials (online and print) for all campus libraries. Repairs library materials as needed. 
  • Performs professional librarian duties including original and copy cataloging, database maintenance and authority control, and data extraction for statistical and analytical reports. 
  • Recommends new or revised procedures to enhance acquisitions, cataloging, classification, materials processing and bibliographic and authority database management. 
  • Assures optimal operation of the bibliographic and authority databases including coordination and project management with database administrators at CARLI and ILS system administrator.

Duty and Responsibility
Oversees all aspects of developing and maintaining the Library's collections that best support the University's mission and academic programs. 
 
Works collaboratively with faculty and other university stakeholders to purchase appropriate resources in all formats and to evaluate/weed materials in collection. 
 
Communicates and promotes the Library's collection to faculty and other stakeholders in the Roosevelt community.

Duty and Responsibility
Generates acquisitions, collection, and materials budget and statistical reports. 
Assists in budget planning and preparation related to acquisitions, cataloging, and materials and monitors expenditures. 
 
Maintains effective relationships with library vendors. 
 
Works with library vendors to negotiate and process licenses for online and print materials. 
 
Oversees acquisitions budget for library resources (print and digital).

Interface with library vendors on technical and performance issues. 
 
Train staff on use of OPAC, newly acquired databases, internal technical services best practices; create documentation when needed. 
 
Work with the library's technology specialist to solve resource access issues.

With the Director of Libraries develops an annual strategic plan with realistic, measurable objectives for all Technical & Collections Services reflecting the library's vision and mission in alignment with institutional priorities and goals. 
 
Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures for the Technical Services and Collections department. 
Responsible for oversight and implementation of assessment practices in the multiple library units of technical and collection services. 
 
Supervises and reviews the work and performance of all personnel in Technical Services and Collections department. 
Engages in professional development through participation in local, regional, national and/or international organizations and activities. 
 
Serves on Library and University Committees as appropriate.
