Position Highlights

The James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking applicants for a half-time Associate Research Professor position with extensive experience and knowledge in the field of optics/lasers. Qualified applicants will have a proven track-record of successfully acquiring external research funding and be respected in the scientific community for their expertise in the field. This position will require working with high-energy lasers and candidates should have extensive experience and knowledge in the field of optics/lasers.

Please note: Due to ITAR/EAR restrictions the successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or hold permanent resident status.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the development of new technologies by performing research in kW-class lasers including fiber lasers, kW-class fiber development, materials and components for DE, optical coating development for high energy lasers (HELs), high Energy fs-ps laser development, propagation and filamentation of HEL lasers in atmosphere, and counter measures.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding.
  • Authors/coauthor manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Supervise/mentor undergraduate/MSc/PhD students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Optics, electrical engineering or related field.
  • Due
    to ITAR/EAR restrictions the successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or
    hold permanent resident status.
  • At least 10 years of experience in optics/laser field.
