Farmingdale State College seeks to hire a full-time lecturer (12 months) in the Department of Urban Horticulture and Design for the urban horticulture curriculum. This appointment includes a 50 percent teaching obligation (15 contact hours per year) in horticultural sciences with course topics such as general horticulture, landscape plant materials, disease and pest control, greenhouse management/production, etc. The selected candidate will work actively with faculty/staff colleagues through departmental service activities such as student recruitment/advisement, curriculum development, and cooperative assistance in the Department's renowned Robert F. Ench Teaching Gardens. The successful candidate will work closely with the Department Chair to coordinate and oversee the operations of the teaching gardens. As such, candidates should possess a broad-based knowledge and skill set in the field of horticulture and plant science with proven teaching and professional experience. An appreciation for the appropriate employment of landscape plants in contemporary urban settings is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are imperative.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS, MA, or its equivalent at time of hire.
  • One or more years of work experience in a professional horticulture setting.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS, MA, or its equivalent in horticulture, plant science, or related field at time of hire.
  • Experience teaching horticulture and/or plant science courses in an undergraduate setting.

Additional Information:

This is a 12-month UUP faculty position.
