Position Highlights

The College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture's Graduate Student Services Coordinator serves as the frontline contact for graduate students for developmental academic advising to encourage engagement and to empower students to achieve their academic and career goals. The Coordinator builds formative relationships with students by providing clarification on academic requirements for specific programs as well as policies and procedures, seeking to maximize student retention and degree completion. The Coordinator is an important member of the FRAME Squad, a team in charge of CAPLA student experience, and initiates, implements, and monitors strategies and procedures that ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of CAPLA operations on behalf of graduate students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Informs prospective students, domestic and international, main campus and online, about admissions procedures and degree requirements and supports faculty on admissions evaluations.
  • Advises current students on plans of study and course selection, academic policies and procedures, and financial aid.
  • Evaluates transfer credit and exceptions to program requirements in consultation with faculty.
  • Monitors the academic progress of students and performs degree audits and degree posting.
  • Coordinates with the undergraduate launch advisor on students who wish to AMP into CAPLA graduate programs.
  • Works with CAPLA School Directors and faculty advisors on general issues that affect graduate students and to troubleshoot student problems.
  • Coordinates with School Directors and faculties, the CAPLA Business Office and Alumni Relations Offices, the Graduate College, and the Bursar's Office to support the awarding and administration of graduate financial aid, including graduate fellowships and other awards, CAPLA scholarships, graduate tuition scholarships, and graduate teaching and research assistantships.
  • Provides support and advice, as needed, during graduate curriculum development, including subplan coordination with the Graduate College and micro-campus degree plan development with institutions abroad.
  • Coordinates with the Graduate College on all graduate student-related policies and procedures.
  • Works with other CAPLA staff to maintain the Graduate Student Services Center.
  • Collects and maintains statistical data on enrollment, retention, and completion, as well as all required student records.
  • Contributes to the development of web, print, and other recruitment, advising, and informational materials.
  • Represents CAPLA graduate programs on university committees.
  • Additional
    duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of comparable experience at a college or university
  • Experience utilizing strong writing skills to
    produce timely and accurate communication with students, faculty, and fellow staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Over 5 years of comparable experience at a college or university
  • Experience with graduate education
  • Experience with SLATE, Trellis, D2L, and other university digital platforms
