Position Highlights

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for a (tenure track) Associate or Full Professor position in the College of Medicine. Pharmacology seeks applicants research interests in elucidating mechanisms underlying the body's response to critical illness based in intestinal pathophysiology with a focus on evaluating the mechanisms behind growth factor- and probiotic-mediated intestinal protection in murine models' sepsis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Medical Education as the position will have responsibility of teaching and course development taught at the Undergraduate Medical Student level, as well as Graduate and Undergraduate, non-medical students. Experience in medical education curriculum mapping would be an added benefit.

Pharmacology has an internationally recognized program with faculty dedicated to the study of skeletal, neuropathic, inflammatory and cancer pain, preclinical studies of migraine and post-traumatic headache as members of the Comprehensive Center for Pain and Addiction and the Center of Excellence for Addiction Sciences. The expertise of the current faculty members encompasses a spectrum of genetic, molecular neurobiological, electrophysiological, cardiovascular, neuropharmacological and behavioral methods conducive to collaborative efforts designed to address the underlying neural circuits and molecular mechanisms of pain and its chronification.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Obtain extramural funding for research by developing and submitting research grant proposals to appropriate funding agencies; as Principal Investigator, partner with faculty to form research teams, develop research plans, write funding proposals, and implementation and dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and invited lectures.
  • Engage in teaching activities for
    undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop courses for the BS in Medicine Program and Department of Pharmacology.
  • Engage with COM curricular mapping and determining the role of pharmacology in the current curriculum.
  • Develop independent research programs
    and contribute to graduate (PhD) and medical (MD) education.
  • Participate
    on appropriate departmental and/or College of Medicine committees, and
    professional organization committees as appropriate.
  • Additional
    duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Creative thinking skills and research command of body functions from the subcellular level up to the level of integration of biological systems in the whole organism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with excellent communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD and MD degree
  • At
    least three (3) to four (4) years as an assistant professor
  • Established record of productivity and
    innovation
  • Established
    or strong potential to establish and independent lab and extramurally
    funded research program

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience performing experimental animal or human research.

* Current NIH funding.

* Established expertise working with diverse communities
