Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree, preferably in a field related to instructional design, educational technology, or bachelor's degree and two years of work experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge of instructional technologies required to develop digital learning materials and support faculty using instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of and experience using the Moodle learning management system in an admin/support role (manager, administrator, advanced helpdesk).
  • Knowledge of and experience in using the Moodle learning management system for instruction.
  • Knowledge of and experience in using academic technologies for instruction or supporting instruction.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work with all constituents in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Must be able to work both independently and be a team player.
  • Excellent writing skills.
License/Certification Required

  • Experience providing instructional support to faculty, trainers, and/or curriculum developers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Technologists are the primary contacts for Information Technology needs for faculty and staff in the delivery of AppState's enterprise-level campus learning technologies including the use of Appalachian's learning management system.

The person will work closely with the Director of the Academic Technology Department and the Academic Technology team to:
  • Provide ongoing Moodle support (proactive outreach and reactive support via tech support tickets).
  • Provide expertise, consult, train and support faculty and staff in the application of instructional technologies, such as the university's LMS (Moodle), collaboration software (Zoom), multimedia tools (Kaltura), presentation tools, and other instructional tools.
  • Coordinate/conduct professional development as needed.
  • Support the development and creation of accessible online learning experiences.
  • Support and consult with faculty, both pedagogically and practically, in the development and successful delivery of quality online and blended courses.
  • Stay current with existing and emerging instructional technology trends.
  • Create and update documentation and Knowledge Base articles.
  • Develop and disseminate accessible materials, documentation, modules, training, workshops, and resources related to campus technologies and the effective use of instructional technologies.
  • Collaborate with AT/ITS colleagues on and assist with the management of projects.
  • Lead projects that support the core mission of Academic Technologies and IT.
  • Must be detail-oriented, have excellent time management, organizational, and writing skills, and effectively lead and execute projects and initiatives.
