Job Description

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) within the Virginia- Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) has an opening for a Laboratory Technician in the Collaborative Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory (CMRL). The CMRL laboratory is a newly renovated shared laboratory space among faculty and graduate students/clinical residents across departments of VMCVM to conduct clinical veterinary research. The CMRL Lab Technician will perform wet lab work and pick up responsibilities such as supply ordering and receiving, equipment maintenance, and new user orientation. This technician will report to the Lab Manager, Michelle Todd, and assist with the day-to-day functions of the Collaborative Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory (CMRL) to support the research of clinical faculty and students. Perform and advise on laboratory techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, real-time and conventional PCR, cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry, animal experiments, etc. Help maintain laboratory inventories for equipment usage, sample storage, and consumables storage. Assists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment inventories. Perform simple ongoing preventative maintenance of lab equipment and coordinate with external technicians for complex equipment maintenance. Assist with ordering and receiving supplies. Interact with RGS office needed.

Required Qualifications

-BS in Life Sciences
-Experience in a laboratory environment

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with laboratory techniques
-Experience with maintenance of laboratory equipment
-Ability to / experience working with diverse faculty and resident/graduate students
-Good interpersonal and time-management skills
