Position Highlights

Financial Services seeks a Tax Accountant to join the Tax Services team. The position will perform a broad scope of assignments related to the areas of tax research, education, planning, and reporting using professional knowledge and authoritative guidance, the application of accounting and tax principles and practices, and University policies and procedures. Assignments include the provision of excellent customer service to campus, performing tax research, making tax determinations, communicating tax legislative changes, and tax and informational reporting. Successful candidates can learn and work independently, translate complex tax language, work accurately with financial and non-financial records, and be proficient with MS Word and Excel.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research and provide determination on Arizona sales and
    use tax matters
  • Research federal and state tax regulations as assigned
  • Assist with documentation and reporting of unrelated
    business income tax
  • Assist with independent contractor review and classification
  • Research and provide tax determination for payments to
    nonresident aliens
  • Research and provide determination for fringe benefit tax
  • Provide customer service and tax training to campus
  • Update and maintain documentation on the Financial
    Services - Tax Services web page
  • Assist with informational reporting
  • Research multi-state and multi-country tax laws,
    requirements, and reporting as assigned
  • Other projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and work independently
  • Ability to interpret, discern, and translate complex tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed financial and nonfinancial records
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related
    area with accounting course work AND one-year of professional accounting
    experience; OR,
  • Five years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting
    experience and course work, which includes at least one year of professional
    accounting, in which a broad exposure to all areas of accounting and accounting
    principles, practices and procedures was acquired; OR,
  • Any equivalent
    combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with a variety of taxation matters, including Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations
  • Experience with UAccess Financials and UAccess Analytics
  • Experience in higher education
