Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President for Enterprise Administration and Business Services (EABS), the Director of Financial Services provides leadership for the financial, budgetary, and business operations of Enterprise Administrative and Business Services, including division E&G, Auxiliary, Self-Supporting, and Central finance areas; as well as act as an advisor to all department heads within EABS on all financial matters. The Director of Financial Services is also responsible for analyzing business opportunities and developing recommendations for management based on data gathered through analysis, as well as developing business plans to support vice presidential initiatives. The position is also responsible for coordinating the details of the division's resources with the appropriate Virginia Tech central finance areas and the Virginia Tech Foundation. This position will provide leadership and have direct oversight of the Business Center and financial staff, which supports business and financial functions for the entire division. Provides strategic planning for the Vice President of EABS and VPEABS Senior staff on all financial and business matters. Serves as a primary point of contact with Central Finance, University Controller, University Foundation, and Internal Audit on all Divisional financial interests. Reviews business practices and procedures for all EABS units to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations/policies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, and/or related field or a combination of education, training, and work experience at a level equating to a degree. Demonstrated experience developing business plans to support key priorities. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently; excellent organizational and delegation skills; and ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with knowledge of computer applications for data analysis and report development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget formulation, evaluation, and execution; accounting practices and procedures; and accepted business practices. Demonstrated ability to work professionally and effectively with executive and senior leadership. Commitment to a high level of customer service and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other administrative personnel throughout the university. Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to see the big picture. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or relevant experience equivalent to a Master's Degree, is preferred. Experience in higher education administration and knowledge of higher education issues and operations, university policies, and procedures. General understanding of and experience supporting division operations and functions, including one or more of the following: business services, public safety, environmental health and safety, transportation services, mail services, and emergency management.

The position requires performing repetitive motions such as data entry. Must have a criminal background check. Other (Describe Below) May be required to work additional hours outside the normal work schedule to meet the department's needs.
