Lycoming College seeks applicants for an opening in Admissions. This position will be hired as either Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director of Admissions, depending on experience. This position, highly integral to the continued growth and vibrancy of the institution, will administer all aspects of the college search and admissions process with prospective high school students including encouraging prospective students to apply and matriculate. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions represents Lycoming College to prospective students and organizations and works to increase inquiries and convert applications into enrolled students. The successful Admissions Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions exhibits superior customer service skills and professionalism throughout daily interactions and communications with students including phone calls, texts emails, interviews and information sessions. The Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions creates and implements recruitment strategies to reach prospective students through on and off campus events, referrals, online and print communications, and outreach to businesses and organizations. The admission Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions must demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members, faculty, students and families, secondary and independent Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions, alumni, administrators and staff. A flexible work schedule that will include days, evenings, and some weekends is required. Travel, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.


  • Create and execute an individual regional territory recruitment plan for each semester as well as participate in the creation of a team recruitment plan. The plan includes recruitment activities, participation in events/conferences/fairs, communications with prospective students and networking opportunities. 
  • This involves extensive off-campus travel within a designated recruitment territory.
  • The Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions will recruit students to Lycoming College by initiating contact and developing relationships with students, parents, Counselor/Assistant Director of Admissions, teachers and other external constituencies. They will become familiar with working regional territory and demographics of cities/towns in that area to best reach the student population for Lycoming College. 
  • Will assist with all campus-based recruitment events including open house programs and visitation days.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate specifics about the academic, recreational, social, extra-curricular and co-curricular life, financial aid programs and communicates this information to prospective students.
  • Must understand and be able to articulate the strategic plan and vision of Lycoming College and is accountable for individual performance and achievement of enrollment goals as well as contributions to overall team goals.
  • Review admissions applications, and evaluate credentials.
  • Develops and implements specific recruitment projects and management tasks as assigned.
  • Develop and update a database of teachers, administrators, and contact people with whom workshops and information sessions can be booked. Network with new contacts to help increase inquiry production. 
  • Attend relevant College meetings and events, and Enrollment Division staff meetings and is prepared to report on management tasks that were previously assigned.
  • Maintain a steady flow of communication via email, traditional mail, and social media, and phone calls with prospective students, applicants, and other constituencies in order to establish a relationship between those individuals and Lycoming College providing superior service.
  • Work with prospective students to garner completed application files prior to enrollment and efforts to increase retention.
  • Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, conversions, personal schedule, travel special programs, and/or expense reports.
  • Under the direction of the Director, participate in the events prior, during, and after each term such as information sessions, orientations, convocation and other first-year registration events and commencement.
  • Ability to work independently, to arrange on and off campus schedules, and set appointments and promote the College in a positive manner a must.
  • Ability to follow the expectation of treating fellow employees, students and the institution’s guests with civility, and to be an active member of the College community.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks accurately as well as accept supervisory input and constructive criticism.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience & Qualifications:

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.


Recruiting, management, sales, and/or knowledge of higher education required; Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the acumen to persuasively articulate the college’s mission, programs, impact and goals to diverse audiences; Well-developed presentation skills are required; Goal oriented and intrinsically motivated with superior customer service and networking skills; Facility with MS Office Suite, social media and marketing via the e Internet as a tool; Ability to manage student files and communications within Technolutions Slate CRM is preferred; Bi- or multi-linguistic ability preferred. Professional attire and personal presentation required daily.
