Facilities Management Electrical Services department is looking for an Electrician to join our team. The Electrical Shop in Facilities Management is an award winning team that provides a wide variety of Electrical Services to the University of Arizona campus. We are interested in applicants who are passionate about the electrical trade and who are interested in performing a variety of tasks with precision and safety. The primary job responsibilities for this position include repairing, maintaining, and installing wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting and other electrical systems. This position will specifically work with generators and automatic transfer switches. As a Journeyman Electrician you will be responsible for electrical installations, troubleshooting, maintenance and service within the commercial, industrial and residential settings in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with a commitment to safety and upholds the core values of Facilities Management at The University of Arizona.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards and regulations.
  • Operates, maintains and trouble shoots facility systems including but not limited to the electrical system and associated components, electrical distribution panels, switch gear, motor controls, generators, automatic transfer switches, lighting, low voltage control systems, transformers and Energy Management Systems.
  • Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment used for locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
  • Installs raceway, pulls wire, and mounts equipment.
  • Trims outlets, light fixtures and other electrical finish work.
  • May perform hot work if qualified and trained with all necessary precautions in place.
  • Assists in training and developing apprentices by providing on the job instruction to basic tasks.
  • Uses electrical formulas to figure out conductor sizes, device and panel sizes, disconnect and electrical load on all types of motors, lights and machines.
  • Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job. Performs duties as assigned by Lead Electrician and Supervisor.
  • Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered and safe work environment and ensures shop equipment is in proper working conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a Journeyman Electrician supporting a large facility (ie. School district, hospital, etc.).
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Applicants who have completed a 4 year apprenticeship program.
