Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in public health or an associated discipline.
    • Candidates who are ABD will be considered, and all requirements for the degree must be completed by the start date.
    • Candidates whose degree is in a related discipline must demonstrate academic experience and credentials to be considered applicable for designation as core public health faculty by accreditation standards.
  • Evidence of teaching, research, and experience in one of the core areas of public health (epidemiology, biostatistics, social and behavioral science, health policy and management, and/or environmental health).
  • Evidence of valuing diversity and inclusion.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Public Health program is housed in the Department of Public Health and Exercise Science (PHES) and is located within the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS). PHES comprises nationally accredited and recognized programs including the Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health, and the Master of Science degree in Exercise Science. The Public Health program is accredited as a standalone Baccalaureate program by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The program is growing rapidly with plans to support a Master of Public Health degree in the near future. The program currently supports nine faculty (five tenure or tenure-track) with diverse research and practice backgrounds. It also enjoys numerous strong, long-term relationships with regional health providers and public health agencies.

The Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) supports over 3,300 students served by 150 faculty and staff. Committed to interprofessional innovation and collaboration in teaching, scholarship, service and clinical outreach, the BCHS is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities we serve. In 2018, the College expanded to include the Holmes Convocation Center and Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a new, state-of-the-art 203,000 square foot facility that is the cornerstone of the Wellness District. In addition, the college is home for the Blue Cross NC Institute for Health and Human Services and has a collaborative partnership with the Wake Forest School of Medicine's Physician Assistant Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Public Health program.
  • Conducting and maintaining an active line of research.
  • Participating in service activities for the department, university, and community.
  • Collaborating with community stakeholders and other professional organizations.
