Job Description

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Business and Administrative Operations, the Business Operations Coordinator (BOC) will perform a wide variety of activities to assist the Office of the President and various departments that report to the President. Primary responsibilities include preparing day-to-day purchasing, administrative, and human resource transactions to ensure compliance with university and state policies and procedures. The BOC also prepares and analyzes reports and interacts with units under the President's senior management area and with departments across the university. This position requires excellent customer service, strong professional judgement, and excellent decision-making skills to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism of the Office of the President.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in business, accounting, or related field and/or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in a financial role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office tools including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, calendaring, and electronic file management systems such as SharePoint.
  • High degree of organization with attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with the team and stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and the flexibility to adapt when situations require shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of university, state, and foundation fiscal practices, policies, and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Banner Finance/HR systems and reporting tools.
  • Experience using HokieMart and Requests for Payment to the Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc.
