Position Highlights

The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research & Development Engineer/Scientist I to work on ongoing projects related to cell therapies, tissue engineering, and artificial organs research. The successful candidate will have verification, and validation studies experience along with compliance experience with regulatory guidelines which may include, but is not limited to, 21CFR 820.30, ISO 13485, 21CFR210/211, 21CFR58 ,and other relevant regulatory standards. Class 3 medical device or related product launch experience is highly preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform technology development in collaboration with product development, materials engineering, and biology animal test teams.
  • Devise plans, report experimental results, and data analysis to senior leadership.
  • Assemble and construct medical devices and other prototypes.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Source bio-materials, refine applicable technologies, manufacturing procedures, and conduct experiments per written procedures.
  • Assist the lab director in developing, updating, and maintaining documentation including lab equipment, drawings/schematics, standard research and administrative operating procedures, and laboratory and engineering core policies.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to support engineering functions of research projects and write technical reports (may involve some statistical analysis).
  • Assist in the management of research materials including acquisition, storage, use for research projects, archival, disposition, and documentation.
  • Prepare equipment, research materials and supplies for research projects and dispose of biohazard waste.
  • Ensure laboratory activities are in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

*Class 3 medical device or related product launch experience.
