Job Summary

The Reference & Technology will assist in the development, expansion, and provision of library services including research and reference services to law students, faculty, and the University community. The librarian will also support teaching and learning with a focus on using technology in the law school curriculum.

This tenure-track position includes expectations of engagement in appropriate professional organizations and professional service according to the obligations set forth in College of Law and University bylaws regarding tenure and promotion. The position is under the direct supervision and general direction of the Director of the Law Library.

Scope

The Reference & Technology Librarian supports teaching and learning with a focus on utilizing and incorporating technology into legal pedagogy. This position will work alongside the Director of the Law Library and other Law Library staff to support the mission of the Law Library.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality reference services to College of Law faculty, students, administration, staff, and University community
  • Integrate technology and digital library resources into the curriculum
  • Develop and deliver programming on technology competencies and provide guidance on embedding technology competencies into the curriculum
  • Support teaching and learning utilizing technology for legal pedagogy
  • Assist in the development of new instructional initiatives
  • Assist in creating content for and updating library web pages and research guides
  • Assist with special collections and archives projects
  • Participate in collection development, including the review of both print and electronic materials
  • Meet the requirements for tenure and promotion, including professional development and service
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Familiarity with legal bibliography, legal research methods, and online legal and non-legal research systems
  • Coursework in Legal Research or experience working in a law library
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design theory
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trends and best practices in legal education and technology competencies
  • Experience in providing general reference assistance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited graduate school, or equivalent
  • Teaching experience, including preparing instructional materials and delivering content
  • Familiarity programming or coding languages (Python, PHP, HTML, C++, etc.)
  • Some familiarity with OCLC, WorldCat, and Worldshare systems
  • Ability to use a content management system (e.g. Drupal) to develop and maintain web content
