Principal Partnership Officer
The Principal Partnerships Office (PPO) is seeking a new Principal Partnership Officer to join a highly strategic and expanding unit within Virginia Tech Advancement. The purpose of the PPO is to mobilize high-functioning teams to secure significant investments by working with multiple stakeholders - internal and external - who have the passion, dedication, and capacity to make transformational impacts at Virginia Tech. With university leadership, the PPO will engage executive-level individuals and donors as partners, according to their interests and expertise, to achieve shared goals by advancing Virginia Tech's ambitious plans and strategic growth in Blacksburg, Roanoke, and Northern Virginia to improve the human condition within the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the world.
To support our bold vision, Virginia Tech is seeking a Principal Partnership Officer to create and execute strategic partnerships with C-suite executives, VIPs, and organizational leadership. He/she will inspire engagement and promote partnerships that create shared value, advance big ideas, accelerate cutting-edge research, enhance market-driven programs, build talent pipelines, and spark innovation.
The Principal Partnership Officer will be a primary interface between a select portfolio of C-suite leadership and executives. In response to executives' professional and personal interests, this person will engage and steward, serve as a key advisor, offer strategic insight and partnership constructs with clear value propositions, facilitate discussions, develop compelling communications and materials, craft proposals, lead capture teams, and engage with company leadership teams, Advisory Boards, and influential individuals.
The Principal Partnership Officer will team with members of Principal Gifts teams, Chief Advancement Officers, LINK + LICENSE + LAUNCH, and other Advancement professionals, to ensure the highest level of service, strategic partnering, and coordination to create superlative experiences for executive leadership. This will require demonstrating the highest-level professional standards, understanding of regional and national players, linking capabilities within the university to opportunities in the marketplace, and connecting personal ambitions to those at Virginia Tech.
Master's or Bachelor's degree
Proven track record interfacing with and advising C-suite-level executives and influential individuals to achieve shared goals
Success working in higher education to promote talent-related, large-scale, transformational partnerships
Experience in consultative or technical sales/marketing, business development, client management, business/research strategy, and/or innovation/partnerships function
Track record of professionalism, with superlative communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to work with and support a wide range of constituents, e.g., clients, customers, teams, donors, and volunteers
Ability to analyze data (e.g., market, technical, customer) and lend technical expertise to establish priorities, and develop and implement strategies with increasing complexity
Evidence as a self-starter who can work independently, as well as be a team contributor in a complex and fast-paced organization
Experience with both individual and institutional principal level investments. Particular strength in developing the case and support for strategic and complex fundraising plans and executing against those plans to achieve goals and objectives
Progressively responsible experience in development, preferably within an institution of higher education, nonprofit organization, or other environment of similar complexity with multiple stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to shape messaging in order to move individuals and institutions across the spectrum of prospect development, culminating in significant and potentially game changing proposals appropriate to organizational priorities and donor interests
Experience identifying, nurturing, and motivating volunteers, and having an appreciation for their role in building an effective fundraising network
Ability to understand and distill complex academic and scientific topics and projects for multiple audiences
