Position Announcement

Assistive Technology/Learning Specialist is responsible for providing students with disabilities information, guidance, learning strategies, and advocating for accessibilities in all programs and activities through interactive customer service processes. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures, federal and state regulations including the Americans With Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADAAA).

Responsibilities
  • Work with faculty and students to provide note-taking and alternative texts materials using current technologies
  • Meet with students and recommend assistive technologies based on documented disability-related needs
  • Train students on the use of technologies and functionality of assistive technology software programs and equipment
  • Hire, train, and process note-takers paperwork with HR and Payroll Office
  • Conduct individual and group trainings/workshops as needed for students on effective learning strategies and current assistive technology use to increase retention and student success
  • Research, recommend, and maintain knowledge of the most current assistive technologies available to assist students
  • Compile data, prepare reports and engage in professional development activities that include disability, accessibility, and inclusion
  • Advocate for students with disabilities accessibility needs and accommodations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree required; Bachelor degree in a related field preferred
  • Two years of experience working in post-secondary institution preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ADAAA and other federal and state regulations
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Suite and technology for students with physical, mental, visual, hearing, and learning disabilities
  • Work collaboratively with the IT Department to troubleshoot technology malfunctions
  • Ability to protect and maintain confidential student records
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent listening and organizational skills
  • Motivated team-player with ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents, and students to deliver high level interactive customer service
  • Must be flexible and willing to work outside regular hours ( 8am to 5pm) as needed.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Part-time hourly position (up to 29 hours per week), with an hourly rate of $15.00 - $17.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of August 15, 2022. Free access to Employee Assistance Program thru Blomquist-Hale and HPC Fitness Center/Recreation facilities; no other benefits.
