GENERAL SUMMARY:

As a key part of the leadership team of the Chicago Booth Healthcare Initiative, the Associate Director is primarily responsible for developing and growing the organization with a mission to support faculty; facilitate opportunities and community for students and alumni; and working to achieve the Initiative’s mission to advance the Chicago Approach of rigorous inquiry throughout the global healthcare community. The position plays a leadership role in the planning and execution of the Initiative’s programs, and will participate in the implementation of a long-term plan for the Initiative. The Associate Director will be responsible for the design, implementation, and assessment of the Initiative’s programs and core activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and supports Initiative programs; develops and leverages relationships with other parts of the University to support these programs.
  • Provides course support to Booth faculty teaching on healthcare intensive topics, including joining instructional teams as requested by faculty.
  • Supports the hiring of adjuncts and clinical faculty to teach healthcare courses.
  • Administers Initiative research and data collection initiatives.
  • Consults with and supports the healthcare research operations of Booth researchers as needed, including: manage relationships with data providers, assist with legal and regulatory tasks (e.g. data use agreements, IRB).
  • Partners with data governance and information technology teams in Booth and across the University of Chicago to facilitate healthcare research for the Booth research community.
  • Works with appropriate University of Chicago teams on fundraising and meeting with external partners as needed. Participates in stewardship for donors and sponsors.
  • Manages operations, including responsibility for the budget and for the workflow and effectiveness of the Initiative.
  • Manages professional staff, including research staff associated with the Initiative.
  • Interfaces with student and alumni groups focused on healthcare.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of strategic planning for the Initiative.
  • Represents the Initiative at various Booth and broader University of Chicago events and meetings.
  • Uses best practices to develop and execute organization's operational and overall strategic plan. Develops and implements relevant policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
  • Plans, develops, analyzes and manages budget, including developing multi-year budget forecasts. May oversee the preparation and management of grant and contract proposals, ensuring compliance with all University, federal and private foundation guidelines and regulations. Develops financial reports and assists with seeking funding for grants.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree.
  • At least five years of administrative or program management experience in a university or research setting.
  • Experience working with faculty.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. healthcare landscape.
  • Excellent people, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Interact with faculty, students, alumni, and staff successfully.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
