Laboratory Supervisor - College of Engineering
A position is available immediately to manage the operations of laboratories housed in the College of Engineering. In addition to supporting the maintenance and upgrading of laboratory equipment, the position also requires the ability to supervise student employees and instruct all students using the laboratories in lab safety and good laboratory practices. The successful candidate should also have a strong desire for continuous learning.
This individual will maintain a safe working environment and a professional learning atmosphere in the laboratories; assist faculty in setting up and conducting experiments and demonstrations; keep inventory of laboratory equipment; ensure smooth operation and coordination of the laboratories; manage the hiring of student employees.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
The individual must have the ability to work collaboratively and ensure the safety of others in a laboratory environment; oversee the operation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments in the facilities, including, preferably, mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems and associated control software. On-the-job learning in some of these areas will be acceptable. The individual must be able to handle/manage/ and properly dispose of hazardous/biological/chemical and construction materials under the guidance of the university’s environmental and safety officer.
Enthusiasm, good management skills, ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a team, sensitivity to others, excellent verbal articulation, willingness to take on new challenges, and an open and appropriately assertive manner are all prerequisites for the position.
B.S. degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or close equivalent, and demonstrated computer literacy. Exceptional experienced individuals who do not meet the degree requirement may be considered.
